Bob Burgin is an author, speaker, and builder working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human learning. His path to the ideas in Emergence started with a struggle, not a credential — as a boy with dyslexia, he learned early what it feels like to wait for meaning to emerge from chaos, a fascination with how minds actually learn that has shaped a thirty-five-year career translating deep scientific research into things people can use.
For the past fifteen years, as chairman and CEO of a learning company built on brain science, he has worked alongside leading memory and cognition researchers — including Robert Bjork, Daniel Schacter, and Henry Roediger III — on learning systems used across many of the largest healthcare organizations in the country, processing more than five billion learner interactions. Earlier, he founded and led a web-based customer service company with Stanford researchers Clifford Nass and Byron Reeves, later sold to the world's largest customer service outsourcing firm. He lives in Boulder, Colorado.
